Brief Program (BRI International Delegation Forum): Delegation Of The Association Of Ethiopian Microfinance Institutions (AEMFI)

BRI Research Institute organized the BRIef (BRI International Delegation Forum) program. BRIef program is designed to help banks and other MFIs to develop microfinance operations in their own market. BRIef is supported by a group of experienced microfinance specialists and field staff.

On November 21 - 25, 2022, BRIef received visits from The Association of Ethiopian Microfinance Institutions (AEMFI) engaged in microfinance in Ethiopia. Participants consisting of 15 Executive Directors from 4 microfinance institutions in Ethiopia, namely the Specialized Financial Promotional Institution (SPFI) which is engaged in poverty alleviation, the MFI Metemamen for microfinance lending, Harbu MFI for lending mainly in agriculture, and the MFI Dire which is engaged in group loan services. This program is located in the Sriwijaya BRI Research Institute room.

This AEMFI Delegation Visit purposed to obtain more information about the development of Micro Banking business and operations based on the experience and success of Bank BRI as a bank in Indonesia that focuses on micro business.

President Director of the BRI Research Institute Anton Hendranata said that understanding micro banking at Bank BRI would be more optimal if it were carried out with classroom learning and direct visits to BRI work units. In-class training and directly at the BRI Office

The BRIEF program began with the delivery of material from the regulator of the Financial Services Authority of the Republic of Indonesia regarding the Regulation of Micro Banking Industry in Indonesia by Mr Roberto Akyuwen, Head of Regional 1 OJK. After that, continued with a comprehensive presentation of Micro Banking at BRI by the Vice President of Bank BRI, which includes the history and latest strategies of Bank BRI, micro business development, banking risk mitigation management, human resource development, branchless banking implementation through BRILink Agents, management of the BRI ultra micro-segment along with a cluster approach and business community. Besides the delivery of learning materials, The delegation of AEMFI to a direct visit of BRILink Agents and UMI Agents in the field, BRI satellite management facilities and the Seva Ark of BRI’s Bank ship in Muara Angke.
